Website copywriting - there are no other careers that are as much fun!
There are a hundred and one ways a person can go about starting a
writing career, working for themselves but wouldn't you want to do something you actually enjoy too?
Then read on for a great success story about the way David has built his business. You're not only going to find inspiration but it will motivate you to get started as well!
David Drake has quite a story about how he got into self-employment and of how he’s succeeding to the tune of a six figure annual income.
Let’s find out how he’s managing to
do that when most of us who would love to write full-time simply sit
around and secretly dream about it rather than taking action.
INTERVIEWER: David, how did you get into self-employment in the first place?
David: It was 2004. I had a zero bank balance, and was living with my parents… man I was flat broke! This was not a proud moment in my life. My situation was grim as was my attitude. I had to figure out how to become a writer!
INTERVIEWER: David’s story sounds like so many other successful entrepreneurs who at some point hit rock bottom only to rise to success like a phoenix from the ashes.
David: I found out you could get paid to be a website copywriter, you know, write online content. My writing skills were poor, and to make matters worse… I’m a slow writer. But my situation was dire and I started going after website copywriter assignments. My first assignment was for a woman, writing content for her website on wheelchairs. I have to tell you I struggled to finish the assignment. She was ecstatic with the results thought, and gave me rave reviews!
INTERVIEWER: David, do you think this was just beginner’s luck?
David: I don’t think so because soon I was winning assignments and raking in the cash with website copywriting and writing online content. There are people all over the Internet looking for people to write their online content. This is a booming trend! I felt like I was figuring out how to become a writer.
INTERVIEWER: Does a person have to go to school or take courses to learn how to write online content; content that people are willing to pay you for writing?
David: The average person only reads at a 6th grade level. To be a good online content writer you only need to write in a basic conversational tone… like you talk. But I took a copywriting course and read a couple of great copywriting books.
INTERVIEWER: What’s the best advice you can give to somebody interested in making a good living as an online freelance writer focusing on website copywriting?
David: Treat it as a business. This is not a hobby or something to play with. Get training! I took courses, read books, and am always working on my skills. My favorite course is AWAI's six figure copywriting course. It's worth every penny and better than any college course I've ever taken.
INTERVIEWER: What is your advice on going to college to become a writer?
David: If your looking to be a journalist then it might make sense. If you want to focus on website copywriting, take one of AWAI's courses. They are a lot less expensive than going to college and are targeted to help you succeed. This is a business, invest in getting it right!
INTERVIEWER: What do you like best about being a website copywriter and internet freelance writer other than all the money you make from doing it?
David: Living the retired lifestyle! Operating from anywhere in the world! All that's needed is a laptop and an Internet connection.
And the best part, success in a freelance writing career means you are free to spend time as you see fit! Spend it with family, travel the world, enjoy hobbies, or live the good life, the choice is yours!
INTERVIEWER: David, have you ever thought of writing a book about how you managed to succeed as a website copywriter and freelance writer?
David: I have written an ebook and it describes all the things I’ve learned on the way to earning a good living writing internet online content as a website copywriter, the good things and the pitfalls.
INTERVIEWER: Fantastic David! You really are living proof that writing for a living doesn’t have to remain a secret pipe dream. Your experience shows that it is possible to learn how to become a writer with little or no experience.
