Becoming a writer is very exciting! For most of us, the toughest part is deciding whether to specialize and if so what to specialize in. Should you be a columnist? A novelist? or maybe a greeting card writer? Whatever you decide, it's important to know that if learning about new things on a daily basis excites you, then a career as a writer is for you!
So, the big questions are...how does one become a writer? And can becoming a writer help you to define your own work-life?
Well, there is not an easy answer nor is there only one way to start a career as a writer. The most important thing is to write. Write something...anything, just write.
You can get started now at Real Writing Jobs.com. It's a great way to get paid for your writing, even when just starting your career!
You see, the word "writer" is a title. Being a writer is work.
You will find some great writer's resources that can help you to decide what direction to take your writing career in.
So, if you think you want to be a writer, ask yourself these questions.
If you want the freedom, lifestyle, and (Yes!) income of a freelance writer, you better learn from someone who knows exactly how it all works. Write Where the Money Is shows you that You CAN make money as a freelance writer.
You can enjoy a great life doing meaningful work. You can set your own hours, get paid for traveling, be your own boss, get published in national magazines and on websites, and live a life that others dream about. Unfortunately, ... most writers struggle. Even if they're good, they struggle. Because most writers do everything wrong. You don't want to be like "most writers."
There are ways to take charge of your own writing career too! If you self publish ebooks you are in full control of all aspects of your career: What you write about, how & where you publish, how much money you want to make and when and where you write....and that is a nice place to be!
Most people think you need to be published to be a real writer but that's just not true! If you write, if you love the act of putting ideas on paper, you are a writer!
Becoming a writer is a process. Remember, there are many types of writers and you can choose one style or write in many areas. For example, you can write:
My best advice on getting started? Where is your passion? Do you love the short and snappy style of greeting cards? Why not begin to write greeting cards? Are you more of an intellectual? Start by writing scholarships. Maybe magazine writing jobs are what you want, or editing jobs excite you.
Whatever you passion is, that is where you will do your best work and begin the process of putting samples together of your work.
Samples? Yes, when you begin your career as a writer, you will want to start collecting samples. Put your best work in a book so if you are called to do a job, you have a varied selection of your writing to show a perspective client.
But don't use the fact that you don't have
samples of your work to give up your dream of becoming a writer. There
are writing careers that don't require them.

A career as a writer can be a very lucrative and enriching experience. I know I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Becoming a writer is easy when you plan and build your own website.
